was pretty cool weekend, chilin out with matt, jase and rob was fun. made a change to hang out with some different people, the tourny itself was average like i said, the venue was just sad, some old late 70's-80's hotel that hasnt been refurbed or bothered to be looked at since. the side events room looked far better than the nats level did, there was only one lift working in the hotel so tryin to get to the top floor was stupid, the stairs to get to the ninth floor was pretty much like climbing everest in the heat that we were in. lil bit frustrating that alot of good players did so badly day 1. ummm, wayne's mates rushed up to congratulate him and the head judge threw him out, which was pretty funny, and the whole judge team messed up on a ruling in zee's match, so i ent fussed xD he lost because of it ROFL.

Besides i don't know what happened over there apart from an arguement over who was scoring correctly

Don't blame me either!! I was downstairs in the sauna side events ;D All i heard is that the lifepoints weren't recorded as well as they could, which is surely down to the players. Trev is a pr0 head judge so I'm sure it wasn't at all his fault. Anyways, my little report: For those of you who don't know (most of you), I was the one on the laptop at the side events... The main problems down on the 2nd floor were the lack of air conditioning and lack of table space. Also, the fact that Mantis can only have 50 tournaments open at a time slowed my job down so apologies to all! Also would like to apologise if I didn't seem to recognise any of you or have time to chat at busy points. Also apologies to a certain top player's mother that I seemed to have upset in the hotel on Saturday night. I am expecting that lady to make a complaint to UDE for letting me judge when I am a mother Hmm since this is a cool site i'll gossip!!! It was JAMIE STAFFORD'S mum ;D Long story but she thought I was chatting up her hsband because I told him I have stretch marks, I mean WHAT A TURN-ON!!! EDIT: If Jamie reads this, you are still pro it's no reflection on you.. On the upside, we managed to run a large amount of tournaments and most people were happy I hope! I wasn't expecting so many polite and friendly players, and on the whole I was very impressed. Congratulations to everyone that did well upstairs on the day, especially Boffolow (rock deck ftw!) and Duncan Pros -meeting lots of friends again -the Get Your Game On! signs annoying people!! (optimus_prime GET YOUR GAME ON!) -winx decks for sale! -most people seeming happy -too many pros to mention Cons -no air con -not enough tables, hence most of the people i talked to wanted to know when they would be playing, which i didn't know... -thieves. too many people had their folders and decks stolen

The UK Nationals 2006 (A judge’s championship experience)
Hi everyone. Since I was judging the national championship this year I thought I would give you an idea of what it is like and how the event went for me so let’s begin shall we…
Friday 5th May
The day before the nationals is where we begin. This was a long day since I had a 2 hour exam at 9:30am at Uni of Hull and then had to get to Birmingham later that day. The train took about 3 hours so did some light reading of policy and useful articles courtesy of metagame.com. Anyway got to Birmingham and couldn’t find the hotel since Birmingham New Street station has 3 main exits. After a quick phone call to a fellow duellist found the hotel. My initial thoughts of the venue were not good since the logistics of trying to get people around the building with one lift with a capacity of 13 people seemed stupid. As well as the lift people going up a narrow stair case to the 9th floor seemed just dangerous. Anyway found the room eventually and got the key stuck in the door. Not a great start when I realised the door had been left unlocked by my room mate Jamie Tucker. Since Jamie had gone out I went to the 9th floor to find my fellow judges. Got there q few games were going and poker. Once Malcolm showed I had to go and help him find someone else around Birmingham at midnight. Once we found another judge came back played some games and then went out for food again (so I was hungry again). Went to bed about 2am ready to start the nationals later that day.
Saturday 6th May (Day 1 of the Nationals)
So after about 4 hours sleep it was time to start work. Get ready and go eat breakfast then for a briefing at 8am. Set up the table numbers , sort out covers for mirrors and prepare for registration. By 9am we began registration which went straight forward enough. The real work began once the 1st round fixtures were up. Fortunately I managed to avoid doing the deck lists this year. Me , Sashi and Jamie were judging the lower tables of the tournament. Got off to a slow start for me but got going with rulings quickly. Trying to keep mirrors covered was hard work since they could off allowed one player to cheat. Also it was hot and stuffy in the Britannia suite on the 9th floor and the air con was barely working. The day went fairly well until the ruling with Zee which I don’t know much about since it was the other side of the room but it did take about 20 minutes I think to resolve. Many players started to drop as the day went on since they didn’t feel they were going to win the tournament or top 8. This meant that I think u only needed 2 wins to get to day 2 by the end of Day 1. After the nationals finished for the day we went downstairs to help out with side events and it was like an inferno in that room , worse than upstairs so I felt really sorry for the side event judges who had been in there all day. Picked up lots of litter. Work for the day was done
After a long day’s work I sat down to do my level 2 judge test I failed with a mark of 74% or 76% not sure which it was in the end. I was so close dammit. Afterwards the judge crew went out for Chinese and again I ate loads (do I sound greedy or just am I fat) played a Judges only KOG and lost to Dan Levy (Dam your creature swaps). Went to bed bout 1 or 2 am to start day 2.
Sunday 7th May (Day 2 of the Nationals)
Day 2 start similar to Day 1 for me except we had to get the remaining 128 seated which was fun since we had to go and make sure people were there by going round and registering 3 times. We got started with round 8 shortly after 10am. Most of the day went fairly straight forward with the odd ruling here and there nothing too drastic took place. It was a shorter day too with 4 rounds and top 8. Once the top 8 began it was understandable people wanted to watch but trying to keep them away from the tables was hard work. The top 8 moved fairly quickly and because we were a judge short at the time I got to sit in on the final. Trev did a great rugby tackle of Wayne’s supporters when they tried to rush the table. Once everything was said and done upstairs went downstairs to help cover the side events in case people rushed it once the nationals were done. After we closed the side events we did another rubbish pick up, a feedback form and picked our product and went home.
Pros + Judging the Nationals + Meeting loads of people who I hadn’t seen in ages + Finding 2 last wills + Getting fed + Product + Others that I can’t think of right now
Cons -Failing that lv 2 test - Not playing the nats instead for a change - Long train journeys - The difference of slogan between Side events and nats judges *
*The side event judges used “Get your game on” and the national judges used “Its time to duel” . LOL
L8rs all
