Proto-Cyber Dragon Attrib: Light Type: Machine/Effect Level:3 Atk: 1100 Def: 600 This card's name is treated as "Cyber Dragon" while it is face-up on the field. Machine Duplication Group: Spell Card Type: Spell Icon:Normal Select 1 Machine-Type monster with an ATK of 500 or less on your side of the field and activate this card. You can Special Summon up to 2 cards with the same name from your Deck. THIS IS THE RULING FROM UDE - ***You can use “Machine Duplication” and “Proto-Cyber Dragon” to Special Summon up to 2 “Cyber Dragons” from your Deck.*** Now is it just me or does this make no sense at all??? , proto cyber d is 1100atk so how can you choose this card with the effect of machine duplication??? ???I reckon I'm going to build a cyber d deck if this is the case!!!!! ;D

that is very tru??, maybe you can only use it if proto-cyber dragon has been targetted with an attack reducing card, such as dark jeroid??

It doesn't say original attack, the only reason could be my point.

in which case you can use it on any machine that has been reduced? ? I reckon the only reason they've made a specific ruling for proto-cyber dragon is because of it's temporary name change.

more than likely but why did they not do this for all the various harpies? , boods point does make sense, that was my original thought, but it is common sense as its name is cyber dragon when on the field, why tell us what we already know???

For the Harpies their name is changed permanently. For Proto, as you said it's name is changed only whilst it's face-up on the field.
It's probably just for completeness.

could be an interesting deck idea/combo.tech sorta thing
also final attack orders has well a sorta surprising ruling, if a face down defense posistion monster is attacked, it is put to atk position before the attack resolves. ace with slate warrior, flips it to face up atk with 2400 atk ^^

Me and Mr black were arguing about this the other day, he reckons you can play machine dupe on proto straight out while it has its original attack, personnaly I think thats bull (no offense matt), if thats the case then what other card text can be completely ignored???, it does clearly state 500atk or less, I think UDE and Netreps need to clear up this little mystery.

not sure mate, but if if it true then the text on the card is being completely ignored so you might aswelll start making up your own rules.

I reckon the only reason they've made a specific ruling for proto-cyber dragon is because of it's temporary name change. You can only use it on a Proto-Cyber Dragon if, for whatever reason, its ATK is 500 or less, as Machine Duplication states. I agree with Yusufsalaam's point quoted above also. The ruling is just giving an example that IF the situation arose where Proto-Cyber Dragon WAS eligible for use with Machine Duplication, that up to 2 Cyber Dragons could be Special Summoned. Sorry Matt, but you must be having a Blonde Moment ;D
