Close Encounters 03/08/05

[Sonic23]

Well, this is my first tournament report ever, so I'll see how this turns out. I'm very pleased about how my results turned out today, especially since it was the first time I had ever used this deck in real-life. It was my Gravekeeper's Control deck today. Here is the report:

Round 1:

Sonic23 vs. Hendrick
Gravekeeper's vs. Horus/Random Deck

Game 1:

Sonic23: 8000 - 7000 - 5400 - 4600 - 3100 - Win
Hendrick: 8000 - 7200 - 7100 - 5400 - 3700 - 0

This was an evenly matched game to start off the tournament. I managed to stop some of his Horuses and my Guardian Sphinx helped me to win in the end.

Game 2:

Sonic23: 8000 - 6500 - 4700 - 2300 - 1500 - 1100 - 0
Hendrick: 8000 - 7600 - 6600 - 5800 - Win

Luck wasn't with me this game. I ended up controlled all the way through with hardly any monsters to help.

Game 3:

Sonic23: 8000 - 6600 - 5500 - Win
Hendrick: 8000 - 7000 - 5400 - 4400 - 3600 - 200 - 0

Much better overall here. Necrovalley never left the field here and my Spear Soldiers moved in for the kill and victory.

Round 2:

Sonic23 vs. Bob
Gravekeeper's vs. Ritual/Fusion/Chaos

Game 1:

Sonic23: 8000 - 6400 - 5900 - 6900 - Win
Bob: 8000 - 6500 - 6100 - 5300 - 4300 - 2300 - 300 - 0

This was a very slow moving game being stalled by Restricts. I managed to overcome it though and overran with Necrovalley and Spear Soldier & Assailant effects stopping BLS.

Game 2:

Sonic23: 8000 - Win
Bob: 8000 - 6000 - 0

This was a much quicker game. With Necrovalley out from the word go. Two early Spies got my Spear Soldiers against his goats. No chance really to recover. Sorry.

Round 3:

Sonic23 vs. Giuseppe
Gravekeeper's vs. Chaos/Warriors

Game 1:

Sonic23: 8000 - 6000 - 7000 - 5400 - Win
Giuseppe: 8000 - 6400 - 3300 - 4300 - 3400 - 3000 - 1500 - 0

A backwards & forewards game really having our fair share of play. But, the final blow came from 2 Spear Soldiers killing goats.

Game 2:

Sonic23: 8000 - 6400 - Win
Giuseppe: 8000 - 7900 - 7800 - 7200 - 5600 - 4000 - 2000 - 400 - 1400 - Win

Different story here, I had control of the field throughout and he couldn't use any of his cards at all cause of Necrovalley. In the end, he rang his own Tribe that I snatched earlier.

Round 4:

Sonic23 vs. Jamie (Shandyboy)
Gravekeeper's vs. Chaos (Anyone notice a pattern developing here )

Game 1:

Sonic23: 8000 - 7400 - 4900 - 400 - 0
Jamie: 8000 - 7800 - 7400 - 5400 - 3400 - Win

Not bad, it started off with a massive blow to his life points by 2 Assailants which helped. But, ending with an empty field I top decked a Chief (Not Helpful ) and was hit by a Blade Knight and DDWL.

Game 2:

Sonic23: 8000 - 6500 - 4300 - Win
Jamie: 8000 - 6500 - 5700 - 2700 - 100 - 0

Completely swarmed the field this game. Trampled goats and removed Breaker with Mirror Force before the fatal blow to end it.

Game 3:

Sonic23: 8000 - 5400 - 4800 - 3200 - 1600 - 800 - Win
Jamie: 8000 - 6400 - 4500 - 2100 - 0

This was a very close game. Necrovalley saved me stopping his Chaos monsters. Then dealt the final blow with Rite Of Spiriting my modified Chief.

Round 5:

Sonic23 vs. Joe (JoeJoe) [Eek!!]
Gravekeeper's vs. Chaos

Game 1:

Sonic23: 8000 - 6000 - 4500 - 3800 - 2300 - 2200 - 700 - 0
Joe: 8000 - 6000 - 2900 - Win

Reasonably matched in this game. He ringed my Spear Soldier and after that I was bombarded by Chaos monsters.

Game 2:

Sonic23: 8000 - 6600 - 3600 - 2500 - 0
Joe: 8000 - 7400 - 6200 - 3200 - 2400 - Win

Same sort of game really. I rang BLS but with Necrovalley out of the window he premed it back. End of story.

I did put up a better fight than I thought I would do though, it was certainly better than KOCW's attempt against him. But anything can happen in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh. It was good to play Joejoe for the first time though and got praised on my deck. Some day I will win.

Final Round:

Sonic23 vs. Jason
Gravekeeper's vs. Burner

Game 1:

Sonic23: 8000 - 7000 - 5200 - 4200 - 3500 - 1800 - 0
Jason: 8000 - 7700 - 4250 - 3250 - 2950 - 2650 - 2350 - Win

Jason stalled for most of the game really. But, I made a terrible mistake of ringing my Sangan when I could of won the game most likely with my Guardian Sphinx dominating his field.

Game 2:

Sonic23: 8000 - 7000 - 5000 - 3000 - 1400 - Win
Jason: 8000 - 6000 - 0

Quick game here. I lost a lot of life points here in quick succession. But, a really good side-deck helped me Wave-Motion him for 6000 and the win.

Game 3:

Sonic23: 8000 - 7000 - 5000 - 2100 - 400 - 0
Jason: 8000 - Win

Only one word can describe what happened to me this game: Destroyed.

Overall:

4/6 Matches Won

Total Placing: 4th

Excellent performance for a deck only just fully completed this morning, shame it went downhill by Round 5 though. But, it isn't the last anyone has seen of my Gravekeepers.
