Hi all,
Just a couple of questions that some of you may be able to help me out with. I recently bought a bulk lot of cards for my son, and out of them I have 3 piles of yu-gi-oh cards that look like an older version of the cards.
I have 49 with the ATK and DEF points in a box at the bottom right of the card, plus the cards have some sort of holographic image that seems to be under the card? Like beams of light eminating outwards. These are all 1st edition cards.
Also, another pile of 38 cards are smaller than the regular cards and have rounded edges. Also, they have a blue oval just under the card name on the left and this blue oval has a number in, like 70, 106 etc.
Finally, the last pile of cards are the most different, instead of the Konami name at the top left of the back of the card it says YU GI OH! older style. The elements on these cards are strange too, light, Wind, they are ok. But then some have Devil,Storm,Land,Scorching,Sound, plough and heat.
I need to know that these are or were original Yu-gi-oh cards and also if people still collect these please?
Any help the group could provide would be fantastic!
Cheers,
Ade.

Thanks for yor reply!
I thought the ones with dodgy element names might be fake.
What do you think about the others? I've tried to find a history of the game, to see what the first ever cards looked like but have had no luck.
If you have any ideas where I might find out that would be great!
Many thanks,
Ade.

Sorry to say buit they are all fake, all cards have the konami logo, and none have the "beams of light eminating outwards" you speak of, infact the boss has a fake magna warrior in the shop with it on. If your just mucking about with you lad then use them but for tourny's you'll have to get real cards.

Hi again, thanks for that last reply, however I saw a link and checked it out and it showed same style cards as one of my piles. This is the text that went with it: What the heck is "World Standard?" A : World Standard is the printing format that Konami switched to right around the time we got the Legend Of Blue Eyes White Dragon set. Before that the description/effect of a card and the Attack and Defense stats where printed in 2 separate boxes. The "World Standard" format that is used now has the description/effect and the Attack and Defense stats printed in the same box. The picture was also slightly larger then the ones used today. You can see the preview at this link: thundercat.freespaces.com/WORLDF.jpgSo I am sure I have cards from when they used the older printing standard, they have the kazuki takahashi name on, plus the codes like psv-093 etc. See what you think of the link. Cheers, Ade.

Like I said I had these from a batch of cards I bought off ebay.
did you look at the link?
The style of card to the left is different to the newer ones because Konami changed its printing style.
Is there a way I can post a picture of one of the cards here at all?
The site where I got the link is off a yu-gi-oh fans website Dark magician girl summat or other.

they are fake mate, the types of card 2 tell if they are fake are misspelt words, in another lanquage or bolder letters, wont have the word konami on the top left on the back, bottom right will say yugioh (not like the ones in the pictures), these are ones i can remember and every card in those pictures are fake.
