If I play a magic or trap card during my turn can my opponent activate dust tornado to destroy it? Or does dust tornado have to be a counter?

yep thats ok too, you can chain to changing of phase, so most people activate DT in their opps end phase, so they can't put another one down

well it depends on how you mean but ill explain the ways i think you mean
1.
"You play Dark hole . Opponent plays dust tornado and targets Dark Hole"
This is impossible since dark hole is played it is considered destroyed therefore dust tornado will not stop the Dark hole
2.
"You set dark hole. opponent activate Dust tornado and targets the set Dark hole"
The dark hole in this case would be destroyed since its been set. As a result you lose your dark hole. If on the other hand you set a trap like Call of the haunted and they dust tornado as soon as you set it you can't activate since traps need to be on the field for at least a turn.
Overall the main point to remeber is
Dust tornado is NOT a counter trap.

The "use" of a Continuous Trap Card's effect (which has a Spell Speed of 2) can be chained and can be chained to. You CANNOT activate (flip face-up) a Continuous Trap Card and also use its effect in the same chain. In order to use the effect of a Continuous Trap Card, it must have been activated (flipped face-up) before the current chain was initiated
so, if you chain dust to call, its destroyed no effect.

no if they flip call and you flip DT, then call happens before the 'effect' takes place, so sangan doesnt hit the field, i am starting to not believe myself here, tiiiiiiiiiiiim.

mate, lol, my quote above (the long one) is straight from ude, where there has to be two chains in order for the effect to work. anyways, the answer will be said when KOCW or Thunder Struck arrives.
I have been looking around other forums, and I now have NO idea whether I am right or not... everything seems to conflict everything else
